Obituary for Alice G. Breznicky

Alice Gloria Breznicky, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.

Alice was born on March 1, 1927 in Hazelton, PA to the late John and Nelly (Wilkus) Duksta. She graduated from Hazelton High School in 1945 and married the love of her life, John Breznicky, on September 4, 1954. After her husband’s sudden death in 1969, Alice continued to raise her two young sons, working for many years at Haverford Hospital and then retiring from Sears and QVC. She was a 30-year resident of Hershey’s Mill in West Chester.

A devout Catholic, Alice attended St. Peter and Paul Parish in West Chester for over 30 years. Alice was the beloved matriarch of her family, to whom she was fiercely devoted. She loved spending Sunday dinners and holidays with family, playing with puppies and finding new treasures on QVC. Though strong and resilient, she was ever a quiet and gentle soul that always put the needs of others before her own. She lived a long and full life as a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John Breznicky; four brothers, Albert, Johnny, Edward and Charles Duksta and a sister, Della (Duksta) Elick. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry & Barbara Breznicky of Broomall, PA and John & Sheryl Breznicky, Jr. of West Chester, PA; two sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Nesquehoning, PA and Dolly Gerrone of Andover, NJ; and five grandchildren, Barry Jr., Jack, Alysia, John and Rachel.

Alice’s wonderful spirit will be celebrated with a memorial service on Tuesday, November 6th at 11:00 am at St. Peter & Paul Parish located at 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380, preceded by a viewing at 10:00 am. A burial will be held the following day at noon at Calvary Cemetery located at 49 S. Hunter Highway in Drums, PA.

Those wishing to honor her life may make a donation in honor of her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate).
